Vivienne Haldane photographer and journalist
About
Vivienne HaldanePhotography is still as magical for me as the first time I stood in front of the developing tray in the dark room and an image shimmered in to view from the swirling liquid. Now I enjoy digital photography and the magic that's created via the 'digital darkroom' on my computer - it's equally magical and no nasty chemicals! The possibilities for creativity are endless and up to ones time and imagination. It's a medium that keeps me entranced and moving towards a higher and higher standard of work. In this sense, one never stops learning and there's much inspiration along the way, from fellow photographers and artists, to cues picked up from every day life.

The journey has been interesting, ever since I followed my passion to study photography, graduating in 1992 from Carrington Polytechnic's Design School (Now Unitec) in Auckland, New Zealand. It was a good move and I loved every minute - some of N.Z's leading art photographers were tutors and inspired me hugely, including Deborah Smith, Fiona Pardington and Haru Sameshima.

Working in the photographic industry at a large commercial studio/lab after this, further shaped and honed my skills.

Returning from overseas in 2002, I decided to return to the small rural town I'd grown up in. At this time I gained an NZQA in writing to add to my work portfolio.

As a busy photo journalist, no two days are the same. I could be in my home office writing a story for a magazine or out on location taking photos. I have a knack for finding an interesting story and making pictures to go with it.

As a teacher of digital photography, I relish the opportunity to inspire and encourage people to enjoy making pictures and capturing the world as they see it.
